Askology's Best Neuroscience-Based Strategies for Getting Sh!t Done: Reduce Distractions

Toronto's Sandy MacKenzie gives a sneak peak into the neuroscience-based strategies included in the "Getting Sh!t Done" programme.

 

The 2016 Report, “Unlocking the UK Daily Savings time, found that Workers spend 50% of their working day checking and managing their email, although only 14% of emails are likely to be crucial to their work.

Reducing distractions like minimizing access to screens is a great way to increase productivity.

The digital nature of society today leaves us constantly checking our smartphones and computers notifications, and this constant distraction hampers our ability to focus on tasks for even short periods.


We recommend scheduling time in our day to check your emails. Be it once an hour, or 3 or 4 times throughout the day. The rest of the time, turn off your notifications. If you are worried about missing a critical email, set your out-of-office notification to say that you are in the office but only checking your email periodically. If it’s urgent give them a phone number to call.
